Understand your surcharge
Proportional multiplier: ((diesel price − base price) ÷ base price) × multiplier = surcharge percentage. Enter the multiplier in percentage points: 20 produces a 20% surcharge when diesel doubles from the base.
Price increment: ((diesel price − base price) ÷ price increment) × percentage points. For example, $1.25 base and +1% per $0.06 produces 25% at $2.75. Partial increments count proportionally.
Rounding & caps: round to the nearest selected step, then apply the minimum and maximum. Positive half-steps round up. Blank caps are unlimited. The default 0% minimum prevents negative surcharges. Fuel charge = base freight × surcharge ÷ 100, rounded to cents; total adds that charge to the base freight. “No rounding” retains precision for the calculation; the displayed rate uses up to six decimals.
Data: EIA U.S. On-Highway Diesel Fuel Prices, weekly U.S. No. 2 diesel retail series. The fallback is extracted from the supplied workbook, released September 9, 2026. Live lookup uses EIA’s shared demo access and can be rate limited; manual entry and file import remain available. Defaults are illustrative and are not a carrier rate agreement.
